“At one magical instant in your early childhood, the page of a book—that string of confused, alien ciphers—shivered into meaning. Words spoke to you, gave up their secrets; at that moment, whole universes opened. You became, irrevocably, a reader.” –Alberto Manguel

No Blood For Water

Hey.. Peeps.. :) Remember Rihanna in the smash-hit Umbrella? Of course it was a great composition, great song and Rihanna was awesome in the video dancing in rain with umbrella. Do you think the rain was real? The amount of water used in this 4:18 minutes of song has no count. Retakes, usage of unlimited water till it satisfies the director has no count -who cares?  The number of visitors for this song on YouTube are still adding up.

"Water water everywhere;
and all the board did shrink,
water water everywhere;
not any drop to drink.
-Samuel Tayor Cloeridge
(The Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner)

Today's episode in Satyamev Jayate (Truth Alone Triumphs) was on Water -Every Drop Counts. The video clips they shared was really moving and inspiring. It was the second last episode of the show, making us to rethink on what we have done. As they say: There is no sorrow on Earth that Heaven cannot heal. -True! Robert Harold Schuller says: A problem is nothing but a decision to be made -I agree.

Article 31 -the constitution of India says: The right to clean and safe water and according to Article 19 -There is right to speak. These are only inked on pages, and locked somewhere -Gawd knows. Still there are areas where people die for water. If it will go on like this then may be another war will be because of water. India is blessed with water, we use to give water to Pakistan as Pakistan is a land-locked country. Still we have to fight for it, pay for it.

There are many shampoo and soap ads in which actors take shower, many songs in which we see our favorite actors dancing and romancing. Remember Paramore's Pressure, BFMV's Tears Don't Fall, Aamir Khan's Zoobie Doobie? -All these were smash-hits and my favorite, but in a way wastage of water. And who can forget Titanic? There should be fine for wasting water or any other resource.

Reminds me few lines by William Wordsworth:
To her fair works did Nature link;
the human soul that through me ran,
and much it grieved my heart to think;
what man has made of man.
-(Lines Written In Early Spring)

Remind the scene: Droplets of water shining and sliding on the blade of grass -beautiful. Rains are beautiful, it completes nature -save it, save Earth. A lake is landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is the Earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature. -quoted Henry David Thoreau.Think!! Signing out.. may God bless y'all.. :)

  3. It was really thought provoking. As popular the song was, so immensely important the discussed topic is.

  4. Shreya,

    A much needed reminder. We will learn only when we face scarcity of water. I do not know when will we ever learn conservation of water is a must.

    Take care

  6. Today we don't realise the importance of water. It is soon going to hit us. The single largest impediment for the growth of our economy is the scarcity of water.
